Responding to where the need is – PACMAT Northland
Updates / Community , 17 Apr 22
Pasifika Futures (PFL), the Whānau Ora commissioning agency for Pacific families, have maintained their support for Pacific families throughout the Omicron outbreak, collaborating with partners across the country to ensure support is being mobilized as fast as possible for Pacific communities.

For Fale Pasifika Te Tai Tokerau, they quickly realized the urgency required for their response to the Omicron outbreak.

“We were hit quite hard by the outbreak, with many families affected. Pasifika Futures ensured we assisted families with welfare support, food parcels and essentials to help keep them safe and protected”, says Fale Pasifika Co-Chair, Mr Johnny Kumitau.

Recognizing the magnitude of the support requested from Fale Pasifika Te Tai Tokerau, PFL deployed a medical assistance team (PACMAT) to support Fale Pasifika in their response to the community outbreak.

“PFL supported us with funding for our families who were in isolation, which was a difficult time for many as they were unable to work. They also supplied us with masks and RAT kits that we were able to distribute to our community.

They provided us with a team that helped with the collection of data for families in isolation and we maintained regular communication to ensure the families had everything they needed.”

Mr Kumitau expresses his gratitude to PFL and acknowledges the importance of working together to meet the needs of Pacific families during these challenging times.

“We are so grateful to the team at PFL and wouldn’t be able to do this without their support. Our partnership allows us to support our Pacific families and help them get through in times of need.”
